Watch: Ian Burkhart, a 23-year-old quadriplegic man, just moved his arm — with his mind

Burkhart had been unable to move his arms or legs since a diving accident four years ago damaged his spinal cord and left him paralyzed. But thanks to a new device that reroutes his brain signals, Burkhart was recently able to lift his hand using his thoughts.

The technology, called Neurobridge, takes electric signals from the brain and sends them directly to the muscles, bypassing the damaged spinal cord.

when i was working on monday one of the managers called downstairs from his office and was like “hey did you hear the good news” and i said what and he said “there’s going to be a heatwave this week” and i was like “what do you mean” and he said “it’s going to be really hot on thursday. you have a shift then. do you want it off”

and when it’s hot no one comes to the cinema and it’s horrible working doing nothing when it’s really hot and sunny outside, and even though i really need the money i was like “yeah okay i guess i can have it off”

and of course i get home and check the weather and it’s SHIT and basically he lied so that he can get less people working and cut down on our hours

juilan:

I don’t know why but I don’t like when people list all of their mental disorders on their about page, especially ones where they are all self diagnosed with conflicting disorders. It just seems like they are trivializing mental illness and as someone who does actually deal with stuff like this on a day to day basis I don’t see it as a way of destigmatizing mental illness at all. Is it wrong for me to feel this way???
